When you're ready to get started, follow the T-Shirt Preparation Steps 1, 2 & 3. Below is the entire process from your preparation to the finished product. I will communicate with you throughout the process to keep you informed on the design and construction of your quilt.
T-SHIRT PREPARATION
1. Gather T-Shirts. Pick out the ones you would like displayed on your quilt. Refer to the pricing chart to see how many you need based on the size of quilt you want. Make sure they are washed and clean. No fabric softener please. DO NOT CUT YOUR T-SHIRTS. I will do that for you!
2. Label. I will use all the designs and logos on the shirts (front/back/sleeves). Using "painters tape" put an X across items you DON'T want on your quilt. (note: masking tape will leave adhesive on your shirt). If you have shirts you prefer to be placed in the center—please write "CENTER" on a strip of tape and place it on top of the shirt.
3. Fill out order form. Print and fill out the order form as best you can, then schedule an appointment.
CUTTING BLOCKS & LAYOUT
T-shirts are cut into different size blocks depending on the style of t-shirt quilt chosen. Once this is complete, I'll know the exact size of your quilt. I'll then assemble the layout of the quilt and email or text you a photo for approval before it is sewn and quilted together.
LONG-ARM CUSTOM QUILTING
The t-shirt quilt consists of three layers:
- Top (t-shirt blocks)
- Middle (batting)
- Back (backing—solid colored fabric)
Once the quilt’s top is sewn together, the long-arm machine will quilt through all three layers. A design is stitched making the back of the quilt unique! Example: Music notes for a concert t-shirt quilt, volleyballs for a volleyball quilt, flowers, running shoes, deer heads, etc. Lots of options to choose from to make a personal touch.
FINISHED QUILT!
Once the quilt is complete, I'll email you a photo and include the invoice of the final balance. The final balance is due at the time of pick-up.
